Chess.Com slow to load

I am not one to usually complain about a site being slow, but this is getting out of hand.  Everywhere I connect to chess.com I have atleast a 5Mb connection and it is slow.  The advertisements are killing the load speed on these pages.  I was trying to open one of my online games and watched the status bar in the bottom attempt to connect to no less than 50 different sites.  This is not a virus or anything else, my machine is clean.

After I finish the games I currently have, I will be closing my account.  I hate to do that, because this is one of the best sites I have found around for playing chess.

Have you tried clearing your cache? That often helps. Also, have you tried using another browser? I recommend Google Chrome, though Mozilla Firefox is a good option too. :-)

FYI This page took alone 3 minutes to show :-(

I was having the same problem yesterday, clearing the cache fixed it.

That, for me, may be a good reason to become a paid member. I hope you're not saying you're a paid member and still have advertising?

No, I don't get ads, but the site was running slowly for me. :-)

we will look into this ASAP. if ou can provide a fireug report or something that would be helful. this has happened before and we just have to work it out with the ad server company.

The site is running ok for me, all day long. I was very affected by the ads problem last week, but today I had no problems with the site. I browsed on it this morning and at lunch time. (GMT -3 here).

BTW, my internet connection is only 256 Kbps, so when things get slow, I sense it! :)

Sometimes the site loads slowly for me too, but I don't get any ads.  It's not very often but I think maybe at peak times the server load is high?

I just did a few of my games and they loaded much quicker than earlier.  I hope that what ever you did fixed the issue.

To answer some of the other questions, I do use firefox and adblock addon.  You can only block some types of advertisments, not all are blockable.

I am not a paid member.

I have firefox set up to clear out my cache everytime I close the browser, so that shouldn't be the issue either.

What exactly is the fireug report? and how do I do one?

don't worry about it. i think we have it fixed. but you can google "firebug" and it will show you :)

and, for what it is worth, chess.com is MUCH faster without ads :)

lol,  I'm sure it is.  I suppose you have to try and sell your product.  You guys should really offer a trial of the membership.  People could try it out and see how they like it more.  Sorry if there already is a trial and I just haven't found it.

I've installed the firebug addon, so if this happens again I can hopefully give you something more useful than some complaints.

the whole site is a trial :) you get trial bits of every single thing. little samplings and permissions. what else would a trial provide that you don't already get to taste? :)

    and, you have a 30-day money-back guarantee...

i think it's just hard for people to pull out the old credit-card. it isn't hard when they go to see a movie (at $5 an hour), but hard for online chess (at maybe $0.04 an hour or less)...

No advertisments of course!  Honestly the base membership to the site is great already.  The only thing that bugs me is the 3 tactics perday.  Other than that, I can't complain.

Thank you for fixing what ever it was.  The site is running much better.
