Look at the WHOLE board and not just the move you want to make.

You may spot a better move or avoid a not so obvious trap.

Don't let your opponent get pieces past your pawns =P!

Also, double bishops are better than double knights, but one knight is better than one bishop =P.  Mostly opinion, but here's fact: Knights are better at the beginning of the game, bishops are better at the end.  Flying2828 fact =P.

thanks for contributing or sharing ur ideas or whatever u call it.

not all double bishops are better than better knights, it because of this another fact about knights and bishop:

knights are better in the closed game.

bishops are better in the open game.

agree?

hope we can play again another game. =P ^^,

Always look for checking moves first, than immediate threats, than moves that threaten the most pieces or most valuable pieces, than other moves.

Sometimes helps me see good tactics, but I'm not sure how sound this advice is.

Look before each move (before making this move physically) if there is your unprotected piece. Look at any capture to avoid tactical blunder.

Don't make a threat unless it actually helps you(ie forces a mate or improves your overall position).

Sit on your hands.

Passed pawns are to be pushed.

The rook belongs behind the passed pawn.

Opening: Don't move the same piece twice

Opening: Knights before Bishops (so they say... never was 100% on this one though)

Opening: Limit the pawn moves

  • Never surrender, the beauty of chess is that your opponent can and will make mistakes
  • Use your knights early; they are your cavalry let them get into enemy formations and take out pieces that will be useful in the mid/later stages of the game ie bishops

I love this line.  It creates a fun little paradox.

Don't start an attack until all your pieces are ready.

Centralize the King first in the endgame, don't waste time on the pawn structure.

Here are a couple from Steinetz:

When in doubt, take the pawn.

The King is a strong piece, who can take care of himself

I am Caissa your Goddess, have no other Games before me.

You shall not be idle, but always looking for tactics and strategies.

Honor your King and Queen. You shalt not blunder.

You shalt covet thy neighbor’s material.
