When I was using the new Computer Workout, I encountered a bug. I was playing white. I moved my piece but the computer wouldn't move in reply. I hit "takeback," but that didn't work. Somehow, as a result, the computer and I switched sides. I was now playing with the black pieces...
Just would like the staff to know that this glitch is occuring
Update: It turns out that this glitch is happening at the exact same spot in a certain chess position (haven't tested it out with other positions), when I make a move that still forces mate, but not in the least number of moves.

Which browser are you using?, I have played the computer workout right now and works fine.
Internet Explorer, but I don't think that the browser is the problem. This has only happened to me on one specific Computer Workout problem so far.

You should say what position and what move it is, otherwise it's a needle in a haystack.
Fine...
Winning with a Knight Pawn
As white:
After 1. Ke6 Kb8 2. Kd6 Kb7 3. Kd7 Ka8 4. Kc6 Ka7 5. Kc7 Ka8 6. Kxb6 Kb8 7.Ka6 Kc7 8. Ka7
Here it tells me "You still have a forced mate, but you missed the best move leading to the quickest mate."
Then I can't move the white pieces, only black pieces
If I try to takeback, the problem persists
As you thought it's not a browser issue, the problem is reproducible with Firefox.
Also, how is this message possible to get:
"AMAZING! You found a mate where the computer did not!"
Shouldn't the computer be better than that?
And if the computer realized that I had mate, then technically didn't it find mate?
erik
thanks. we'll take a look at this.
and how is it possible to get this? "AMAZING! You found a mate where the computer did not!"
it's because the computer looks at a search depth of 12 ply, and you picked the right move and then the search depth caught up. we should change that to say "Nice work! You found the forcing checkmate!"
it's because the computer looks at a search depth of 12 ply
In many positions the computer lists mates well beyond 12 ply.
true. in those cases it is relying on tablebases. so then when it finally enters a tablebase position it realizes it.
That's interesting...thanks for letting me know!

I'm surprised that you all have so few problems with the computer workout. It doesn't work at all for me. EVERYTIME I MOVE, THE COMPUTER DOES NOTHING! Then, I have to take back the move and do it again. Then, it does something. It's ridiculous. Why would anyone pay for this?
