How do I change the content on the sidebar of my public profile?

e.g. How do I add the groups I belong to.

It is already displaying the groups you're a part of - if you want to confirm this, log out and try this link:

It doesn't seem to quite as simple as logging out and in again for everybody though.

Oh no, Artfizz, I just meant if he wanted to see it for himself, as confimation he could log out and see. Logging out has nothing to do with the groups actually displaying. The confusion arises because when we look at our own public profile it doesn't display as others see it in this respect.

 That is very profound.

My real enquiry was this : "How do I change the content on the sidebar of my public profile? e.g. How do I add the groups I belong to?"

Which seems really odd to me.  What purpose is viewing our public profile if not to display it as others see it?

Anyway, thanks.

This is just a minor issue with the recent launch of group display. I'm sure it was just overlooked. If your original inquiry was how to add your groups to your profile like you saw on other people's walls, my answer remains - it is currently the case that they're displayed.

Currently you can customize only whether or not your notes are viewable here, as yet it doesn't seem like we can customize our page a la facebook (I don't really see the need for that degree of customizability, but to each his own):

Thanks, rhoskins, for the question, and Rael for the answer.  I had also noticed I could see the group memberships of others, but could not see my own.  And then, when I tried to get it to display in my public profile, I discovered that it appears I could not find a way to do it.  I wondered if I was just not looking in the right place to adjust the setting.  Then, as Rael suggested, I logged out and looked up my profile.  Only then did I notice my groups are, in fact, displayed.  :-)

Thanks again.

Well, Facebook's degree of customizability has at least prevented workarounds à la MySpace, and all the horrors that have come with them.

I am not a big fan of all these social media sites, I am mostly here for the chess, but user freedom in these matters is a good thing. N'est-ce pas?

Oh, for sure. I'm not behind any of these decisions or what have you - I was just passing along what I'd observed in an attempt to address what I saw as your main issue - how to make sure that your groups were being displayed as you'd seen it on other profiles. That's all, heh.

If you are initiating a discussion about what other kinds of customization you can imagine you'd like to have, well, by all means, I just don't have any opinions about that, and I'm personally quite happy with the current degree we have available.
