The ability to make conditional moves is a benefit to turn based chess. I don't understand why some players are complaining about it, it shouldn't affect their play in most situations
Patzer24
Yes, we will keep the conditional move feature. No worries!

I would actually like to see the conditional moves feature upgraded. For example if the conditional moves which I set creates a forced move for my opponent I would like to see the opponents move automatically made. The diagram below shows a situation where I have set conditional moves that lead to checkmate. Essentially the game is over.
The main drawback that I can see:
1. Player 1 sets conditions which they think leads to a forced CM.
2. Player 2 has an option that was overlooked so the game doesn't automatically end as expected.
3. Player 1 is triggered to study the board more deeply since the game didn't end.
4.Player 1 may find that one of their key attacking pieces could actually be captured by Player 2 under the condition set and therefore remove or change the condition. So essentially this change would have been partly computer aided.
What do you think?
Do you see any additional downfalls?
Can the downfall which I presented be remedied somehow?

conditional moves happen to be one of the main reasons i changed to this site to play online chess. i love it!

There should also be an option like "no matter what he does, I do this"

I have wanted this option since day 1!

That might be a bad idea. What if there was a move that you overlooked?
But I support that idea, mainly because openings will be a lot quicker.

If you overlooked a move (and I do quite often!), that's called a blunder ain't it? and it serves you (and me) right.
furtiveking
Exactly. It might be a "bad idea" from the perspective of the player using the feature. But, IMO, it's a good idea for the site to add the option.

i still like the idea posed in a thread months(?) ago where someone suggested that conditional moves (with respect to openings) can be saved and used in other games. definitely speed up the games, and cause less "boredom" for some.

back when Adam was a boy they used to use the word 'any' as a 'conditional' option for your opponent's move in correspondence chess - just to hurry things along when the the postal services were even more unreliable than today - tho that hard to believe - dunno how that could be applied to this wonderful techno-era but, there again, ain't this s'posed to be the age of 'progress'

One improvement I'd like to see is this: if your opponent has planned a conditional move, this fact should appear near the board, since you will then know that you have unfinished business in this game before you move on to another.
i'd even go as far as to say that there should be a "warning" of some kind pop up somewhere on the screen before you've even made a move yet, telling you that your opponent has included some conditional moves.
(is that what you meant? i assumed you meant after you made your move.)
ElectricEel
I think he probably actually meant before as opposed to afterwards, since it does tell you it's your move again afterwards.
