I just lost 40 rating points in my last game. I was 1351, and I am now 1311. The player I was playing with was 1190. I have 170 games played. Is this normal? I have never suffered such a big rating difference after a game before.
If your opponent was ranked that low, then yeah, that is probably about right.
Tiago,
I just took a look at both yours and his histories. Before that game you had only finished 6 games in May. He has finished MANY more. Total number of games has a lot less meaning than recent games. The number of recent games is the single biggest factor in determining your Glicko RD. Your Glicko RD is one of the biggest factor in determining how much your rating goes up or down with each finished game. So, to answer your question directly, based on your respective RDs, no, you shouldnt lose less than he wins, because he has finished more games recently.
Hope that helps,
Josh
