So it seems that the new Live Chess is coming in soon? and with that, it seems that the ratings as well as all the old games will be wiped.

So I figured, might as well just download the pgns (just in case I ever want them). So I go to my archive, sort by live games and click Download All My Games in One PGN that is found on the bottom of the page. However since I have so many games (I'm assuming), this doesn't work so well (at all). Is there any way to get this to work, or do I have to go page by page (for 58 pages) if I want to get all the pgn's?

Hello bondiggity,

You should see a link on the game archive page to download ALL of your available games into PGN (at the bottom of http://www.chess.com/home/my_archive.html )

Indeed, but upon clicking that link, nothing happens for me (Well my browser goes into "thinking" mode, so its not coding or anything, but its just wont download). I'm wondering if is it  because it's too big? I mainly use safari but I tried firefox to make sure it wasn't my browser, and to no avail.

Its an absolute disgrace that they are wiping all the ratings and all the games. Part of the reason I became a member was so I could access all my games.

RC_Woods: I just ended up going to my archive and doing it page by page. Just click select all and download pgn. Does it 50 at a time, and I finished relatively quickly.

RainbowRising: I really don't think its that big a deal erasing ratings. With our Glicko RD's reset, it wont take long to get back to exactly where you were. As far as the games are concerned, I see your point. However it wasn't that big a hassle to just import them into SCID so I wont be too vocal about it.

I have nothing to play them on! The whole point is that I can go over the games online, from anywhere, just by logging onto chess.com. If I wrote them all down, I lose all of that ability.

RR, I still maintain that you don't need to review your games more than once.

As to downloading the PGN's, doing it page-by-page should sort out download issues... not too much hassle.

This is only going to happen once. All of your completed games happened in the Beta version of live chess. You have to understand that usually nothing in beta gets saved, it's just a test run. This is true for all such things.

Apart from the fact that never deleting a game was part of chess.coms promise when offering membership ;)

You have the opportunity to download the PGN's, and there are free programs you can download to view the games... I fail to see the issue.

RainbowRising you may create your own simple site at any free hosting, and at this site just put simple game browser with all your games, and browse them anytime as it was chess.com, from any browser at any device, even from mobile. It is not much work to to, because most things already done and you need only connect parts together. Ask somebody to make this simple site for you, if you cant by yourself. Even if you will pay somebody it would be not expensive. And that site would be accessable for years without any problems, and for free. You even may add games to there time by time.

There's even chesscat: a newspaper style chess pgn program you can download here: http://www.chess.com/download/view/chesscat It's also a nifty analysis board.
