I just upgraded to Firefox 3.5, and I am not able to log in (so I'm using IE8 to post this blecchhh!).

I enter my user id and password, hit enter (have also tried pressing the login button) and it just returns me to the sign in page with no error message:

https://www.chess.com/login.html

I have tried closing the browser, clearing cookies/history/cache same result.

Already had user agent switcher installed, pretended to be firefox 2 running on xp and that didnt help.

Reboot of the PC, same result.

I'm back to using IE8.

Updated Safari earlier today, let me try that. Standby.

1443 hours: Ok, Safari works. I am able to log in just fine. So must be a Firefox issue.

1730 hours: Iceweasel 3.0.6 works, I am able to sign in to chess.com still.

1956 hours: Must be Firefox 3.5, because I can't sign in to gmail from Firefox either.

I just upgraded to Firefox 3.5 and I had no problem logging in. If you are running NoScript you have to allow chess.com and chesscomfiles.com.

I was using FF3 until yesterday when it developed a few issues and kept crashing on me for no apparent reason. After i finally got fed up with this, i googled to see if there were any others with this problem. Someone at FF3 has a sense of humour or my pc has a cold.

There’s a number of reasons for Firefox 3 crashing, which could include any of these, or be something else:

  • Incompatible or Buggy Extensions
  • Buggy Plugins
  • Upgrading an Old 2.x Profile to 3.0 (using a fresh profile works best)
  • Spyware/Viruses
  • Compatibility Problems with XP
  • Video Card Drivers (Make sure you are not using old drivers)
  • Tablet PC Incompatibility
  • Sneezing loudly

That must be it.

There were only two things my hearing impaired ex wife could hear. Jet Engines, and my sneeze.

In fact the Fire Department I used to work for would send me to Southern California every year, to help put out those big wild fires with my wet blasts.

In the meantime I have solved (I think) the firefox 3.5.0 sign in problem. First, I updated to 3.5.1 and discovered that the default is to NOT accept cookies.

I checked the box to accept cookies, and that didn't help. So I unchecked the accept cookies box and now I can log in just fine from Firefox.

Bizarre.

haha sneezing loudly.  I swear ff1 and 2 had this exact problem.  Also, 'loading webpages' could cause issues.  Honestly, I don't know if they've done anything about it yet but I don't understand how ff3.5 made it out the door.  It's easily the worst piece of software I have ever tried to use, and I had to downgrade to ff3 before my pc accidentally fell out the window.

Yes, I recall ff2 having this same issue...I'm about ready to uninstall 3.5.1, it can't even render craigslist text pages correctly. Ugh!

For once, I am glad Debian is slow to put up new packages! No way 3.5.1 should have made it out the door as you said. A real winner on top of vista sp2.
