It used to be easy to accept and ask for friend requests. Now, players complain that they cannot find my friend requests of them and I have to go to my "home", pull down menu and then look for friend requests. Those might have sat there for a while since I get no message of the ask the way I used to in the past.

That's odd, I just checked my "manage friends" page and discovered there has been a request waiting for me!

They used to show up as messages, has that changed now?

Check that your alert settings are working how you would wish them to.
