I'm pretty new on the site and this whole chess thing and I was wondering how you can know the affect a game will have on your rating?

If you click on the details tab on one of your games, there is a link "show rating details". Or if you're looking pre game, look at the game seeks, and it will show you on the right.

 No; rating adjustments are based on an algorithm that takes several factors into account, including both players' ratings.
