    hi

i've got a weird thing started appearing at the bottom of my chess.com screen. Its got a jewel and "Begin your quest for valuable jewels" & something about "connect to meebo".

does anybody know where its come from or - more important - how to get rid of it. its really irritating.

meebo is the messaging application that allows you to communicate with friends on chess.com, it also interacts with MSN messanger, ICQ, Yahoo, and facebook.  I suspect that the meebo advertising is contributing a bit to the bottom line of chess.com

having said that, I too am a bit tired of meebo, it clogs up my IE history files and I suspect piles temporary files into my cache.  I am not much into IMing and on the occasion that I do want to send an IM I use ICQ.

Anyway we can opt out of meebo?

A search of the site would have brought you guys to this answer already, as this question has been asked literally dozens of times..... but, you can remove it from this page in your settings: http://www.chess.com/home/privacy.html .
