I have this game where several opponent accounts have been closed.  Has anyone an idea on whom I should write to or how to protest?

    Why would you protest?

Becuz my group (NBA FanClub) might have won if the opponent hadn't cheated.

Unfortunately, as far as I understand, results of games where one player is a caught cheater are not overturned. Figuring out which games had actual cheating and which didn't, as well as precisely how many points should be readjusted to every player in every case, would get incredibly complicated quickly.

Looks like a 20 point deficit would become a 16 point deficit.

Also looks like match play sets itself up for not a lot of fun.

Yes but they're the one who sets rules and rules can be very complicated or rather simple.  For example, it can just 1) the opponent will auto earn the win and 2) rating +30 for each game awarded.  No investiagation is needed whether or not the player actually cheated in any specific game. This will strongly underline chess.com standpoint on no toleration against cheating.

Still i do understand your points but for me fair play is a must and simple is the best.

Out of my curiousity, so no one ever protests on cheating?

Dealing with cheating opponents is very distressing for most people. Often, they vent here in the main forums. Smile

A bonus of 30 points for each game seems very high to me. Besides, returning rating points is not really necessary, because rating points aren't earnings. One cannot "buy" anything with them. A rating is merely an estimate of one's playing strength. Yes, cheating opponents cause one's rating to unjustly decline, but that is why cheaters are banned.

If a cheater is caught while his game is in progress, the opponent is awarded the victory. However, for past games, the results must stand as they are.

We should cease further discussion of this here. I encourage you to continue this discussion in the Cheating Forum.

Too quick, missed some unless there have been a few more closures.

These are the pairings where you would get 5.5 more points

     away888 (2666)  0.5 vs 1.5  DefenderXIII (2388)

     gosha48 (2268)  1 vs 1 illegal557 (2084)

     TTNor (2391) 1.5 vs 0.5 FBA (2169)

     AlexSm89 (2371) 1 vs 1 bosepo (2171)

     gary76 (1848) 2 vs 0 Sevgin (1831)

     varelt_flame (1969) 2 vs 0 calper (1743)

     El_Gremio (1358) 0.5 vs 1.5 italoma (1394)

     1.5 + 1 + .5 + 1 + 0 + 0 + 1.5 = 5.5

These is the pairing where you would get one point:

     sascha01 (1887) 1 vs 1 Kastamonulu (1864)

Your net gain is 4.5, your opponent's net loss is 4.5

    Your new total is 59.5 + 4.5 = 64

    Your opponent's new total is 79.5 - 4.5 = 75

You lose by 11 rather than 20.

Your math is very clear Tad. The protest won't change anything for my group so rather stop now.  Thanks a lot to both of you, Whirlwind and Tad.
