I have been playing for years and am at a beginning level.  I was wondering in what area I should put most effort to improve my game (learning openings, strategies, etc.).

Tactics are the key to getting to the next level. Understanding, pins, skewers,forks etc. will help you not only win but prevent the same tricks from happening to you
