The live chess feature is a great idea , if only we could actually complete a game without disconnection. I do so hope we can get it working, eventually.

Speaking for myself, I will say that an efficient live chess facility is all that this site needs to make it  the "best on the web".

I look forward to the "bugs" being resolved.

we're working on it. should have some big progress this week.

memory-infection, if you knew how complicated it is to actually do this, you wouldn't sound so impatient. i'm sorry there are bugs in a BETA version of a FREE chess server. (geesh)

I don't care for the live chess feature! I love my "correspondence" chess all the more ;-)

and, for that matter, I would like to add that these bugs must be quite system/setup specific (and thus more difficult to detect and extinguish), because it has been working fine on my system for more than a month now. I have played dozens of games, and only experienced one disconnect. (and Im not even sure it was chess.com.)

 Great stuff Erik!

It is important to add that THIS kind of live chess the chess.com team is working on has NEVER been done on the internet before, or at least I've never seen it. You guys probably don't understand and you might not see that this (it is not JAVA nor FLASH crap) will write a new paragraph in the book of web 2.0 application hsitory. ;-)

Oh dear. I was under the impression that feedback was invited and welcome. It seems I was wrong. Foot in mouth

This is the 500th nag post about live chess. It is a LIVE BETA which means its not finished and it wont be for a while probably. When it's finished you will know. Feedback is ok, but you should search the forums for topics before posting another thread to see if anyone else has already posted a similar topic(which they have...) so the forums arent full of hundreds of threads talking about the exact same thing. Does anyone read the stickies anymore??

As well as being overly sensitive, Anthony is given to exaggeration, I suspect.

I was not aware that one is expected to review all prior comment before posting one's own.

Okay so maybe not 500 but yes you should see if the topic has already been covered and if your question isnt answered in that post then reply to that post. The problem is that other users will search for the same answers as you and only find "many questions but no answers." It will take long periods of time finding answers to the simplest questions because of the huge number of identical posts. Also it messes up the google searches as well. When you type something in google, it will often give you a forum link like this one for instance. They may end up finding many posts with questions and no answers and that sucks for users. This type of thing occurs at many if not all forums and can get very annoying at times when you need info fast.

Anthony's advice seems like a good idea but, given the number of topics and comments posted on the site to date, seems to me to be a little impractical.

It is  pity that admin seems to be unable to distinguish between comment and complaint.

"Yeah, what's with the bugs?Yell" thats more of a complaint then a comment... and he's the one who started this site, im sure its frustrating to put as much work as he did into it, yet people are complaining about things like a Beta not being perfect. i doubt u can do any better

It is always interesting joining a new site.   For me in the past it has always been guitar forums....and there are always people on all forums who add positive and constructive critisism  with  a nice dose of gratitude (which is really feedback)  and people who are less patient and bordering on demanding, often not realizing or ackowledging the amount of work that has gone into the project.

And when the person is called on their negativity, they pull the trump card claiming 'I thought feedback is a welcome thing...I must have been wrong.'

So their comments tend to not add but detract from the community, and certainly do not inspire the site manager to correct the problem (at least not for that person's sake).

All I can say is, in spite of the occasional dis-con from a game (which usually saves me from losing  :)......I am pretty thankful to have found this site and the chance to play chess when ever I feel like it......Attacking those who are putting a LOT of work into improving things is just not useful in any way.

Semi tactfully yours

Robster

Guys,

Great work on the site so far, playing it in China is interesting enough given the firewall (only browser that works in Shanghai is Firefox, however in Beijing Safari will also work).

One other thing which I am sure you have already come across (sorry if I am repeating here) but on occasion the create new game / rematch / etc box sticks in the foreground of the chess game box and you have to move it around if you play a subsequent match.

Surprisingly, there are no disconnect issues for me in China. All in all I would say that this is a great site and certainly worth subscribing to when I get to a place where I can use my credit card online.

Cheers, and keep up the good work.
