When you sign up, you have different options with or without Automatic renewal. You must have picked one with, but you can ask them to change it.
Membership Auto-Renewal

proKnight, it's actually pretty common to have automatic renewals, particularly in the e-commerce world. You really got to stay on top of what and when you subscribed to something. (& Read the fine print, etc.)
Welcome to the business world. :)

Hmm, real business is about customer satisfaction, not enforced payment against your will. Sounds more like tourist industry advice from a remote island :-)
You can kill the auto renewal. Contact paypal if you paid for your membership through this method or your credit card company and ask them to remove this site from the recurring payment list.
Hi, I had this problem.
Go to the bottom of the page, by the green pawn. Click "help and support", then "Account & Membership", " I need help with a billing issue" and it tells you to click "here" to end your auto renewal. I didn't choose auto renewal, I think everyone gets set up that way!
Good luck. :)
I actually like most of Chess.com features, although I have not used to many of them.
The one thing that I dislike about Chess.com is the "Auto Renewal." Before I subscribed I was asked by Jeff, "Why did I wanted to cancel during the 30 cancellation period."
I said, "I don't want the "auto renewal" and I do not find a easy way to cancel it."
Jeff said, "After you sign up let me know and I will take care of it."
Well I signed up and sent several e-mail to Jeff and that did not bring me any help. I Called my credit card company and they suggested I placed a block on Chess.com for four years. I did that.
When it comes time to renew, I will be the one to initiate it. In all my dealings with any companies, I don't allow anyone to charge me for anything at will.
Howard Clark says not to let companies with "Customer no service" control the credit card billing.
I agree. I "cancelled" my membership simply because I don't like any automatic charges on my credit card. I am happy to pay for the service I get here, but at the very least I want to confirm it before any new charges are made. My preference would be a simple message a few weeks before membership expires asking to tick a box saying yes or no on renewing and paying again.
I completely agree.
But what do you mean by "cancelled" your membership? You still have a platinum membership now...
He cancelled his membership, but he's already paid for a month or a year, so he still gets to use his membership benefits for whatever period of time that he paid for.
When his paid-for time runs out, he'll pay again and then "cancel" his membership again to avoid being force into auto-repayment.

Thank you, that totally worked! It's essentially a hidden feature, disguised under the labels "downgrade account" and "cancel membership". If you've already paid for a month or a year of membership, nothing gets cancelled except the auto-renewal... Ugh...
So recently I got my platinum membership on chess.com renewed... automatically. Is there anyway where I can prevent this from happening and just know to pay by myself when time comes instead?
I mean reminders are great but they seems useless when chess.com automatically will charge you again for another year of membership. This should be done by the members themselves.
