Using a different browser fixed the problem.

Same here. The board loads but the pieces don't.

It was working fine. I played a move in turn-based chess. The site attempted to rotate to the next board, but the pieces never loaded. I've done a hard refresh to no effect (and I can no loger see the pieces in any of my games).

IE didn't work at all and I have already converted to FireFox in response (which was working fine until this latest development). Computer is new and internet connection is ADSL2. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You might try clearing out your temporary internet files, cache, and cookies as this may correct the issue. Also, you can try to go into your Online Chess settings page (http://www.chess.com/home/echess_settings.html) and switch to Lines style of pieces as this may also correct the issue.

Thanks heaps for that. It has, however, corrected itself somehow.
