They changed the rules awhile back so that you lose points if even like 1 or 2 moves were made!

Did they change the rules back to the old like you have to make 4-5 moves before the game is rated?

In this case it's not really good, though, White already has an advantage. So, If I blunder on move 3 I can just let the clock run out?

Or refuse to move if my opponent plays 1 d4, because I only like to play against e4?

As far as I know you can safely abort a game before White's 4th move. So 3 moves each is safe to abort, and won't count for ratings.

I just really think it's weird, so if you dislike the opening your opponent plays, you can abort without penalty? I can play 1e4 and never have to face a Sicilian?

Doesn't matter what the reason is, aborted or time out.... result is the same.. no change to ratings if before white makes 4th move.

For timeouts yes, for resignations or withdrawals no.

Aborted games where you click the "Abort" button are deemed to have never happened.

No TadDude.. even if a player withdraws or resigns before white makes the 4th move.... ratings will not be affected. This has been qualified by a mod - see Lizard's comment above... he meant resign when he said safely abort... as the ABORT link disappears once both players make just 1 move....

Grakovsky withdrew from a tournament 2009 06 01.

On that day Grakovsky's rating dropped from 1863 to 1589 without playing a move in any of the 10 games.

After this 3 ply game Manack's rating increased from 1676 to 1680 and Yoshi91's rating decreased from 1383 to 1355.

If you lose a game (via timeout, resignation, withdrawl from a tournament), you will lose rating points. This is regardless of the length of the game. If you "Abort" a game (this is only possible before each player makes their first move, and never in tournament or match games), either player's ratings will NOT be affected.

If you win a game (via timeout, resignation, etc.) the game must be at least 4 full moves before your ratings will be affected.

Why is this? Simply put, games that short aren't meaningfull enough. But, the losers of these games will lose rating points so that they can't just quit a game because they don't like the opening or something, and not be penalized for it.

But then is there is still the question what will happen after a very fast mate. For example: 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Bc5 3.Qh5 Pc6 4.Qxf7 mate (not four full moves, but a meaningful game...

If somebady start a game, and she/he does only one move and the other person run out of time the person will lose the game and points too.

I have this problem too, i've finished 2 games, both was Chess 960 and i haven't got plus points and it didn't count the games:

The statistics say, you've played 2 games. And i've played 4, 2 before the bug and 2 after the bug.

http://www.chess.com/echess/profile/pajeszattila Total Games: 2

Last 2 games: (Chess960)

Before 2 games : (Chess960)

Pajeszattila, your last 960 games were unrated (you can check under details). So no stats are affected.
