in online chess, the piece i am moving -- but before i "submit" the move -- disappears from the board. if i back track, using the arrow keys, more pieces disappear.
it doesn't always happen but it happens a lot.
i've noticed it before but it was very frequent today -- 5/2/10.
more on the above: it happens when i hit "cancel". anybody else having this problem?

I have now seen any other reports of this problem recently. What web browser are you using? Make sure to use the most current version of which ever web browser you choose to use. Also, try using the "Control F5" or "Control R" keys to do a hard refresh on the page where you are having troubles. And finally try clearing your browser cache and then refresh your game page and try to play your move again as this should help.

I have had this problem as well, most commonly in the past week. When I'm sifting through the moves of a current Online game, the pieces seem to flash/blink and sometimes disappear altogether. I'm thinking that is simply my internet connection though.

This is happening to me today, as well. I haven't noticed a problem up until today.
I am seeing the problem with Safari running on Mac OS X. I find that if I click somewhere in the browser window (but not on the board itself), the page refreshes and all the pieces then get displayed correctly.
I tried using Firefox and Google Chrome instead, and the problem doesn't seem to show up in those browsers -- only in Safari.
i'm using safari. 4.0.5 on Mac OS 10.5.8.
but i've always used both on chess.com &, though there have been other glitches, it's only now that the pieces have been disappearing so frequently. today, so far, for some reason, the problem is not so bad.
i appreciate the feedback from all, but if the software i'm using is incompatible with chess.com, the techies in charge shd come out & say so.

Safari SHOULD work. Here are some steps to take when this happens: http://support.chess.com/index.php?_m=troubleshooter&_a=steps&troubleshootercatid=2&parentid=0 .
thanks. i'll try those links if (when?) it recurs . . .

Mac user ..... using the latest Safari. Thanks for the link furtiveking. For whatever geeky reason; changing the piece style I use (as suggested in the link) solved the problem - which was driving me crazy when I tried to review a game.
I'm guessing Chess.com made some changes (6/7 days ago?) as my account was working perfectly up until that time.
You're welcome, glad I could help.
In technical terms, it worked because... well.... computers are weird. :-)

On the chess.com login page I can see the chess boards displayed but can't see the pieces. I used to be able to see them but they disappeared.
Can anyone help with this?
Did you try the tips in the above link?

I've had the same problem. Using Chrome.
I tried the refresh using ctrl f5. The rest of the advice is for other browsers other than Internet Explorer 8 which is what I am using. I was previously using IE7 and had the same problem with that.
The strange thing is that it had been working up until a few days ago.
Anymore suggestions I could try?
Incidently I tried deleting the Temporary Internet Files as well.

I have had the same problem using "chrome"...and need to refresh, in order to submit my moves.
This is happening on the login page. My games are fine.
When I click on the board it opens up and the pieces are there.
I've tried refreshing the page but the problem still persists.

i get this too - with Opera and Windows Explorer - only sometimes however...?
I've just installed the latest Java Billy in the hope that it would cure the problem but without luck.
A friend has just got back to me and she tried it on her computer and has the same problem so it must be a problem with the code on Chess.com
