Poor Sportsmanship

I was winning, when my opponant "Begine" USA just let the clock run down. I had nearly 26 minutes left on my clock and this person let the time run out for a draw because he/she was losing.

There should be a retriction on this person.

If you let the clock run down, you lose, you don't draw. How many more times are we going to get this complaint?

Synaphai

What does your failure to win a won endgame have to do with your opponent's time management?

A lot, apparently, as long as people don't know the rules.

kleelof

Yeah, that's a draw.

Did you even bother with the Draw button? Might have saved you 26 minutes and this whine.

One of the best 'mess with you' moves I've ever seen. Laughing

They are trying to explain that in the final position, it is impossible for either side to win. No matter how badly your opponent played, you could never win. Even if you were allowed to make your opponent's moves, there is no way to checkmate with only a king and bishop.

Therefore, unless either side resigns, it will be a draw.

You or your opponent could have offered a draw. That could have ended the game. Did you or your opponent actually offer a draw?

If you turned down a draw offer, your opponent's only alternative is to let the clock run out. If the clock runs out in such a situation (where the side running out of time cannot be mated in any possible scenario), a draw is automatically declared.

I can see you may not be very experienced with chess, so here is a link that will explain what happened:

Oh, I've been Blue Emu'd. Frown

Pulpofeira

Eh?

Seareads

It's even worst sportsmanship to call them out in a public forum.

Emu'd -

My mistake. I got the name confused with the user it was named after.

Pulpofeira

You learn more in the forums than in the chess mentor.

Pulpofeira

Anyway, it's clear from the context you are referring to the OP.

Harley-Rebel

Its a shame white didn't win after recovering from that speculative Queen sacrifice on move 7.

wanmokewan

What, he let time run down then took your pawn at the last second? He didn't time out.

You were not winning after move 56.

After move 56 your opponent was not losing.

There should not be any restriction on your opponent.

I realise you are new to chess, but it is good advice to ask about a finished game without accusing your opponent....especially when you don't fully understand the game yourself

BetterUrSunshine

Thanks for your replies; yes, I am new at this. However, by posting this comment, I was able to learn more.

Thanks again!

BTW, yes, I was wrong by mentioning my oppenant's handle. Sorry!

grubs4chess

I understand your frustration Sunshine, but will have to agree with most that it is often better to bite you lip on a world wide public forum. I learned the hard way too. Just keep on playing and ignore the opponents that tick you off or act like children. In fact, they may be children. Hope to hear from you soon. Left you private messages. dlg
