HI, i get a DNS_Probe_Finished_NXDOMAIN error when i try to access chess.com from my home ip address.

If i use a proxy i get to the website with no problem, otherwise the page just doesnt load in any browser and i cant even ping it from my cmd. Is my ip banned?
(Its 79.179.16.101 )

Best bet is to open a ticket:

Thanks, submitted. I just saw some people have posted similar issues here with moderators responding to the thread, so I just assumed that this is the place for it.

You might get someone that can help here too. Just a bit better to open a support ticket.

This seems to be an issue with the Chrome browser. Is that what you're using?

Try this to see if it helps: Bring up a command window by clicking the Start button and entering "cmd" (without quotes) in the search field. I don't remember where it is in Windows 8. I have a shortcut on my Windows 8 Desktop. (The Windows 8 start screen is pure garbage. I only use the Desktop.) Enter "ipconfig /flushdns"
PCs keep a temporary DNS lookup table and that command clears it and forces your PC to ask the internet for new information.

I've heard some people say this will fix the problem. Others say it doesn't, that the problem is in Chrome. Firefox and IE don't seem to have this problem.

I have the problem in Firefox as well as chrome, and ive tried that already.
Also tried clearing cache, and restarting the dns client (windows 8.1) Frown

You can try pointing to a different DNS server. You are probably getting DNS from your internet provider automatically. You can manually set it to something else. Try Google's public DNS servers at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and see what happens. It might make your browsing a little slower because it will probably take a few tenths of a second more for each lookup but you you may not even notice.

Thanks Gomer_Pyle :) that did it!

Great! You should set your DNS back to automatic once in a while to see if the problem has cleared up. A few tenths of a second more per lookup may not sound like much but many pages require a dozen or more lookups to load. Those tenths may add up to seconds of load time.

Much obliged :)
