Procedure to denounce inappropriate chat conversations

Sort:
Mayrig

If during a game, Your opponent start racist conversations/accusations/ religious topics...

Is there a way to denounce that?

I know you can disable chat, but that's not really something I would like to do. I am often incited to defend / attack prejudice people have.

AnnaEA

I'd just say. "Username,  that's rude/inappropriate/sucky/racist/whatever, and I disapprove.  Cut it out."

And if they didn't, then I'd block them.

goldendog

"Get thee behind me Satan" ought to do it.

Sheltie75

some people will use it as a tactic to put you off. its pathetic. just block them

LOL...That honestly made me laugh, and think of Aunt Esther from Sanford and Son.

ok,thanks for your insight.as for me,i want to chat during my games, provided my opponent is friendly.f he s not and he becomes nasty, i can b patient enough 2 be nice.unfortunately, there r sour, sarcatic and arrogant losers who do not know that chess is supposed to be fun and an opportunity to make new friends. the only reason i posted this is he is the one who has the gall to complain to the organizers.maybe,he really influential in the board. io appeal then that d board review the transcript. cheers.

merry Christmas.

Look at it this way.  How many times do you run across these online gangstas at OTB tournaments, or chess club?  You dont!  because they know its safer to hide behind a computer at home...the library..or whereever online gangstas tend to hangout.

The best thing you can do when this happens is to post the entire conversation along with the other players name on the forums so that everyone can see what a terrible person he is.

i don't want to do that because i can destroy the guy's reputation.after all,it is only one game, unless of course the guy is a recidivist.i just wish he will learn his manners and ethics in chess.he was very, very rude, sarcastic and acidic.but who knows?he just might get his bearings back and repent.here's s a message to the guy - come on,pal, grow up.get real. chess s not brawn.be cool, ok?the only provocation i know was u lost a game.then, u lost ur composure and common sense.my unsolicited advice is if you don't want to lose, don't play chess.f u don't want to chat,u can disable chat.am sorry i have to say this.cheers.

I remember discussing this on another thread. Honestly, if you are talking about live chess and especially bullet, the best thing to do is just look at the board and not read the chat box. You will win on time, because whilst your opponent is busy insulting you, you are making moves. Free rating points, and best possible repost to their idiotic behaviour.

report and disable chat.  seems easy enough.  stupid racists.

ozzie_c_cobblepot

I just got an email today suggesting that I celebrate the holidays by buying pancakes.

ozzie_c_cobblepot

"Give the Gift of Pancakes" was the subject line.

A player on another server tells me last night I'm being oddly polite...for not talking trash.

I'm an old fart - is talking trash "trendy" these days? Geez.

the thing is if the loser calls u a jerk, retard,or moron, the logical conclusion is he is worse than u r. he has a a low opinion of himself. to begin with, compared with u, he admits that a jerk, a retard or a moron, who just beat him, is the better player than he is. respect begins with respect for oneself. if he can't show it, it is only because a person can give only what he has.  at his low moments,he just brings out his "trash" which he keeps and spills it in the neighborhood.  out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.  your attitude in chess can betray the kind of person who u r. i am thankful that,in general, the chess community is highly ethical, polite and friendly. i wish we can keep it that way.

Is there a procedure to "denounce" this conversation ?

This is not good advice - and is against chess.com policy.

Your options are:

  1. Ignore
  2. Disable chat
  3. Block the player
  4. Report abuse directly to chess.com
