The board does not appear on the "Play against computer" screen, I have the latest Apple released version of Java.

I will try to find it, as you probably know mac's ship the latest builds through software update, let me see if it's in system profiler

I can't :( Apple releases it when it feels like. Sun doesn't produce a mac build. I ran software update and it doesn't have any updates, I'll surf apple.com for a little.

"Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 7 delivers improved compatibility, security, and reliability by updating J2SE 5.0 to 1.5.0_24, and updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_20 for 64-bit capable Intel-based Macs. J2SE 1.4.2 is no longer being updated to fix bugs or security issues and remains disabled by default in this update."

See bolded - that's my current version, I will try it anyways

Also I can confirm it's not a browser issue - both Safari and Firefox fail (Safari gives me an error, Firefox leaves a blank screen)

yeah... somehow you need to get java 1.6. i googled around and found stuff like:

    http://www.cs.princeton.edu/introcs/11hello/mac.html

not sure why they are only showing java 1.5. 1.6 has been out for YEARS :(

Just thought I'd add - I used the source code of the webpage to find a link to where you stored your applet. Downloaded it, no dice.

@lior1 - I'll keep looking but for now just wait until the next software update and it will probably be working

I'm having the same issue on my Mac as the other users here.  Works just fine on my iPhone though.  Would appreciate any help available.  Thanks, Duane

if you are having troubles, maybe try "Soylatte", the java alternative for mac?

i took a look at soylatte, i'll try it now and let you know how it works

I got my command line to tell me i was at 1.6.0_03 using java -version when I installed soylatte, but i'm not having any luck with my browsers. Java Tester still says 1.5.0_24 and play against computer applet still isnt working. If anyone else wants to give it a try soylatte might do the trick.

This blows. I am using the latest Java for Mac as recommended and it still does not work. I wish someone at Chess.com would recommend a solution.
