Thanks a lot.
To be clear about your first question, making that big of a jump from your first game is not unusual. The first few games will always effect your rating the most.
I completely understand the statisical basis for the initial rating calculation but do wonder whether in the real chess.com world it is actually as useful to players as the previous straightforward/statistically unadjusted ratings?
Even with caveats it's not all that useful to have 'inflated' scores etc; my own preference as a newbie would be, even if doesn't reflect a 'true' score, to simply work your way up or down from 1200 with ' normal' rating.
??
Many chess playing sites do the same type of initial rating.....for example, you might have to play 20 provisional games before you start getting the "normal" rating system treatment....this helps to find a more "true" rating for players who are 2200 strength but start (as does everyone) at 1200. Other servers allow you to input a rating and start there and then use the standard rating system.
I find the rating system here stabilizes quite normally after several games....
The main thing is to enjoy the chess and learn and not worry about ratings....the more you learn and understand, the rating will follow.
:)
Well said! :)
Ya .. i got his point,as i think the same..but sometimes i feel more free to play when the game is unrated...as i am a beginner and worry about many things..LOL
