In some games where I use the notes tab a little red star * appears. I find this very helpful to remember that I'm making notes on that game. But the problem is that this does not happen everytime. It seems to happen randomly.

it should be there on every game where there is a note. if that is not true, please show us a game where there is a note but not a red asterisk.

Oh wait, I believe I understand what happens:

After I've saved my notes for the fist time there no asterisk appears. The asterisk appears only after I leave that game and later return to it.

So there is no problem. Sorry.
