I was playing a tournament game when my opponent claims he accidentally resigned the game via his phone. Of course, I have no reason not to believe this as the game was 12 moves in, relatively equal (or perhaps he even had a slight advantage!) and he has a much higher rating than me. I don't really want to claim a cheap win like that and I'd like to play him anyway, so I was wondering if a staff member could possibly restart the game? I will provide the game link in a message.

I think asking for a "take-back" would be nice in non-tournament games, in case a mistake is made. But, we all must be really certain if the move we made is what we want to make...like taking your fingers off a piece after moving it. It is not a cheap win for you...it is a win if they resign, even by mistake. They can learn how not to do it again, and you can learn not to feel guilty about it.

I remember my brother-in-law many years ago was rated 2600 by FIDE and the only way I could beat him was to not let him take moves back. (He was very easily distracted.) If a higher-ranked player doesn't know better, shame on them.

It is a cheap win because while trying to make a move the player obviously accidentally pressed the wrong key, it's not the same as taking back a move. Either way, both players would like to restart the game, and I would also like to learn from playing the person!

Your opponent has already spoken with me. Please check your emails :)
