I wasn't quite sure where to post this, sorry...

* Something I've noticed in my welcome games is that some people say hello, but never move and then don't return. I suspect sometimes people are not noticing the "submit move" button, getting bored and leaving. I certainly sat looking at blue-highlighted 1.d4 for 5 minutes or so when I joined.

You should probably put something in the blurb in the chat window, eg

"When you are done, remember to click on the submit move button below - you can alter the need to do this in your account settings."

because I seriously believe you are missing out on memberships because of this.

* Wouldn't it make more sense if the "rematch" link, by default, attempted to create a game with the same time setting and rated/unrated status as the completed game it was called from? A lot of people expect that it will, and seem surprised when it doesn't.

This has occasionally caused some accidents for me, and I'm forever forgetting to open advanced options and set unrated, meaning I need to create the seek again. Perhaps, at least, making (un)rated setting immediately visible on the new game form again?

Thanks for your time =)

I agree with making the (un)rated option visible on the screen without having to go into advanced options.

I was a bit confused when i joined but the big green submit button seemed pretty obvious.

About the rematch saving the settings.

I disagree, often a rematch is because someone lost on time, so when the new game is created, there is often the need to increase the clock.

But I do agree that the rating choice should be put on the main part of the creat a game.

If you need to alter the settings anyway, then you won't care what the defaults are. It's much more likely that you'll create a rematch with the same settings than different ones, surely.

And yes, it does seem strange that people might not spot a large green submit button, but the attractive move highlighting draws your attention. I think people are moving a pawn and navigating away from the page before they notice the button sometimes.

The 'rating button' idea is an excellent one, David!

It does seem to warrant an 'avanced' status, though having read thousands of comments deposited on 'Tactic Strainer', I could well be wrong. Come to think of it, I am.

Delta5Ply, raises an interesting point, which I suspect is a contributory factor to would-be GM malaise.

I know from personal experience that people "are" confused when they join and play their first game against a greeter.

I haven't played any greeter games in a while, but my last one posted the following message after I introduced myself to him:

"Hello, are you there?"

"Why you not move? Hurry... go now!"

After I moved, I got the following cryptic question:

"Are you real player or computer?"

I must confess I was sorely tempted!

I think the real problem David is that we "assume" chess players are intellient beings and sadly.... this appears to be not always the case... lol

E the G :)
