Thunderbird 3.1.2 and @chess.com email

    Hello!

I can't configure pop3 email settings in my Thunderbird ver. 3.1.2.

I have several email addresses and already configured Thunderbird to collect messages from them. However I can't do this for @chess.com email. The error is: connection timeout (something like this, I have Russian language in Thunderbird).

My settings for @chess.com email in TB are the following:

    Login: Eugen-a-chess.com (-a- = @)

Password: my chess.com password (I didn't change it for my email)

    POP3: mail.chess.com (port 995), encrypted password authentication, SSL/TSL connection

SMTP: mail.chess.com (port 465), encrypted password authentication, SSL/TSL connection

No firewall (Windows XP firewall is disabled) is currently installed on my computer (I just reinstalled my Windows and haven't installed any anti-virus software yet) that could block the connection.

    Thank you!

Setting forwarding on at your chess.com email account will probably enable you to receive your chess.com emails in Thunderbird (though the connection time out is still puzzling).

I have changed some settings in Thunderbird and fixed the problem. It turned out that @chess.com email does not support encrypted password authentication and SSL/TSL connection in Pop3 settings. That's why my TB could not connect with @chess.com email server.

I have changed it to non-encrypted password authentication and connection without using SSL/TSL and the problem disappeared.

    Thank you!

Thunderbird has another encryption option (I believe it's labeled as STARTTSL) that you could try if SSL/TSL did not work. Perhaps I am just too paranoid in always wanting to send encrypted e-mails, though.
