Hello,
Did there is additional time (hours) for the player when it is the end of the week-end ?
Knightmage
Not that I know of, your timers keep going.
Perhaps I am wrong but in a game one of my opponent has something like 22h left and now 43 ! and difficult to check now of course but i think i am ok because he hadn't played this week-end.
Does his status show as vacation?
No i have never seen in vaccation, always waiting....
omnipaul
It's possible he had been put in auto-vacation for a short time while you weren't paying attention. If he went on to make moves in the games that triggered the auto-vac quickly enough (within a day), then time would have been added to all of his games (to try to keep auto-vac from triggering again too shortly afterwards).
Oooh, why not, looks possible but not really fair.
It was a recently implemented change (maybe a few months ago). I understand the motivations behind it, though I don't completely agree.
The first part of the change was that vacations always take a minimum of a full day off of your bank. This part was meant to penalize people that depended on auto-vacation to manage a larger number of games than was feasible for them. Even if they're on vacation only a few minutes, a full day would be removed. If they went on vacation again later that day, another full day would be removed. Shortly, they'd have no more vacation time to keep this up.
Shortly thereafter, they instituted the second half of the change, which was that time was added to the player's games when they returned from vacation. The idea here was that if they've been put on auto-vacation, it is possible that they have many games with less than a couple of hours left. If this is the case, they could slip back into auto-vacation before they can make moves in their games. The time added to games gives them the opportunity to make moves in their games so they don't slip into auto-vacation again.
Unfortunately, this brings us back pretty much where we were before the change. People can still use auto-vac to stall lost games because they now don't go on auto-vac as often because of the added time.
While I agree with the idea of adding time to games to prevent a slip back into auto-vac while you're busy catching up in your games, I think a full day is too much. A few hours should be sufficient if the person is legitimately trying to catch up before they slip back into auto-vac.
Ok, thanks for this message. I understand and also not totally agree (with an opponent with 171 games for exemple)
