Im actually not 100% sure if this is where this post belongs, im relatively new to the site and ill apologize in advance if this belongs somewhere else but here goes...

Basically the story is have only a few minutes daily to log online, and i spend them moving on my games. So this friday I try log on to make my moves for the weekend, and the server is down. This is understandable that updates need to be made etc etc, but my problem is that I had to leave for a camping trip and just returned to find that 2 of my games timed out. Obviously its impossible to get these games back, but if anyone has advice on how i might prevent this from happening? I mean i realize i could have gone on vaca before friday night, but I didnt even find out I was leaving until aboot an hour before I did.

i'm really sorry to hear about that. luckily, that is why we built the VACATION setting is for: http://www.chess.com/home/echess_settings.html

the only other options is that we sell a biometric reader that is clipped on to your index finger and measures your proximity to a computer and if that gets out of a  100 mile range and you have a sudden thought about your chess games then it automatically sends a message over wireless satelite connection to adjust your settings for you. that costs $12 million per month and is available now!

seriously, i'd recommend that if you tend to be mobile like that then you play games with a little extra cusion - say 3 days?

Yes definitely seems the most logical thing, though on average I log on once daily, just incase something like that were to happen again I wont be playing anything less than 3 days per move.

I feel your pain there and for the record if the site is down to where we can not log on the timer should stop (no stupid pager comment here). We can not plan around a site downtime and it happened quite often last week.

if the site goes down we always add back time onto all the games.

You can play more online chess games and finish the games without running out of time to lower your timeout percentage.

You could also become a premium member and have automatic vacation protection:->

Just another idea....
