Hello, I currently have a 16% time out rate and i'm not sure what that means, also it won't allow me to play in tournaments because I need a 10% or less.  What do I do, and how did this happen?

Timeout percentage is the percentage of games that you lost due to running out of time. To lower your Timeout percentage you would have to play more games and not lose the games on time.

If you don't play a move in your game with the time limit (1 day, 3 days, etc.) then you lose the game, same as if you were checkmated or resigned. This also counts as a timeout. This has happened to you in 16% of your games. Since everyone would prefer people who finish their games rather than timeouts, tournaments are restricted to those people who have shown they are responsible enough to finish more than 90% of their games.

The only way to decrease your timeout %  is to play more games to their completion without timing out in any of them.

16% time outs it is too much. Why you don't play on more days? 5,7 etc...

I would never allow you with 16% time outs, in my tournament .

Thank you Patzer but I never intentionally meant to run out of time.  I just diddn't have computer access for over 3 days un-expectedly and lost on time on a bunch of my games.

I think you should contact the site administator about your situation, Ryan.  I know why you lost internet access and an ice storm shouldn't be the reason you lose a chess match.  Perhaps the games could be restarted.  That's what I did when I was a moderator for chess.ac...

These posts were made over a year ago, so no, we can't restart his lost games
