What does the daily ranking mean exactly?  It indicates my current ranking out of 280,538.  I thought there were millions of memebers on this site.  Why does the ranking system only take 280K into account?

Members are different than players.  "Members check in, but they don't check out."

See  http://www.chess.com/echess/players.html for the number of players considered to be active.

Also a lot of people only do live or correspondence chess but not both.
