UNRATED

In today's match, I represent Power of Chess whilst my opponent namely Katipunan_1892 (unrated) is with Pinoy Chess. To my surprise, when I checked his profile I discovered that he had a rating of 1572 dated 3/11/13.

Fortunately, I had only made one move in both games (balck and white). I decided to abandon both games, and I informed  my Super Admin. So far, I am still waiting for his reply.

By falsely claiming to be an UNRATED player, certainly had its advantages of getting more points for a win against a rated player, and losing less points.

Is it possible for a rated player to be suddenly an unrated player ??

Is this the way we advocate honest and fair play policy ???

Scottrf

Each time control has a separate rating. In online chess he is unrated. The rating you looked at is his blitz rating.

He hasn't falsely claimed anything.

I would have still played the person. They're only rated 53 points higher. It's like you're scared.Laughing

To:-Scottrf,

My apologies for the error. Thanks for enlightening me.

To:-trysts,

Its is a matter of opinion as to whether we should entertain that person.I was rated higher than him, as he was unrated. For your info, I had just won over a guy with 1834 rating, a few days ago. For the record I had also won over opponent with a 2000+ rating, last year. I am not afraid of anyone. To me, I enjoy and appreciate every game that I had played. If I am not mistaken, I played about 6,000 games or more since I became a member of chess .com.

I would gladly welcome a game with sincerely you.

Best Regards.

Might have been worth checking before abandoning the game and losing your team 2 points for nothing.

I know, I know...Captain Hindsight.

I really didn't think anyone would be scared of someone rated a little higher than themselves, fhwee. I was just kidding you when I asked if you were scaredWink

I just started a game, which makes three games going for me, so maybe I'll play you if I don't make a thread about the Candidates tournament starting Friday. I'll let you knowSmile

That's very nice of you to say, Scottrf.Smile But I'm still debating because I have to play through almost every game for a month! I don't know if I'm ready for it?

Scottrf

People will pick up the games you miss.

That would be neat! It is in London, so the time difference won't be too bad(like the women's world championship). We'll see, since I'll have to play around with my work schedule a bitSmile

I don't see the problem, and I definitely do not understand why anyone would abandon a game based on someone's rating. I've played many games against considerably higher rated players, up to +500 points, and although I have not had any hope of winning these matches, they are potentially valuable learning experiences. Rating points do not matter at all. If you lose points, you do not lose your understanding of the game.

Though recommended is 0-150 rating-points above your own would never hesitate to play higher-ranked player. You will not lose many points yourself & may learn something in the process.

Chess.com will let you set a specific rating for a oponent =from a low of<to a high of> before starting your game
