Sometime we need a conditional move function for vote chess , is this possible ???
chris-u
Jim I've wondered about site capabilities and functions myself.I think the best thing to do is go to the site map and contact the chess.com staff. If a function does not exist they will possibly install it when they upgrade the server.

it could save on time outs thats for sure it would be a great idea

Cap'n, in previous posts where this came up I came out against it.
The reason is that vote chess is unique on chess.com, in that it runs precicisely on a schedule. If a game starts today, I can calculate exactly what date and and time I will have to make move 12, or 20, or 35 or whatever.
Conditional moves will mess with this schedule, I am on a few teams where some good players make a point of being available at critical times, (remember vacation doesn't apply here), I fear conditionals will cause problems for serious vote chess teams.
Your thoughts?

The question is, who would control this conditional move, and if it's the team, could more than one person set a conditional move and interfere with the first one that may have been made? Wiping it out in favor of the new one? That may be the reason they don't have one in the first place. If you got 16 people on the team , that's 16 possible conditional moves that could be made by each team member. Would you need to vote one each conditional move made to see which gets played?
Only SA can do this but if chess.com can not do it this discussion has no meaning
Who is the SA in a team match?????? I dont know if they can do this or not. The question is, will they want to do this for a team match???
Group SA
If the Group SA isnt in every match, then the function doesn't work??????? What if a group has more than one SA? Do all of them have that same power to do a conditional move? I dont think Chess.com is going to do all that coding, but it cant hurt to ask....

time out is part of the vote chess, if it happen bad luck. Need better communcation next time.

That's my biggest problem with Conditional Moves in Vote Chess as well. Vote Chess moves at a Constant Rate unlike Personal Games which move at a Variable Rate. I absolutely LOVE to use conditional moves in my personal games. But it just wouldn't work for Vote Chess. That is of course assuming you could even figure out a way to make it work with multiple players.
The only thing I can see that MIGHT work would be a way of using the conditional move system as a way of casting your votes early. That way, the game still progresses at a constant rate. As long as your opponent moves as expected, you don't have to worry about casting your next vote cuz you've already cast it. Not everyone has to cast their votes early, and the multiple conditonal move lines would be solved like any other vote. So the team itself would not be setting any conditional moves, but the individual players could set conditional votes. Yeah!! That sounds good!! I could go for THAT!!
You can cast your votes early now, why would you need a conditional move for that???
You can't cast your votes early now. You can only cast a vote when it's your turn, and only for that move.
Ahh, I see what you are saying, but that to would be a conditional move as well.
I like that
Would one conditional move be wiped out in favor of the second team member doing one, and then would that be wiped out in favor of a third member doing one?
If that would be the case, then it wont work, might as well wait for your turn, and, then cast your vote for the move you want. If you have 5 conditional moves waiting in the wings, who's conditional move wins out, and, once that move is made, can you have others vote on a move since a conditional move is the one made for the entire team. That is the way a conditional move works isnt it? Then it isnt really vote chess if a conditional vote move is made and no other vote can overide it..... Is it conditional moves we are really talking about or early moves that can be inserted when it's the teams turn to vote? If it's really the second then I think chess.com will leave it as is and tell us all to vote when its our turn in vote chess.......

Conditional moves in VC sounds like a good idea; but, it seems like it could get really complicated...depending on the VC team, and the participating voters. Some (of course) will silently enter their own conditional moves.
I think that if this feature is added to VC games, it should only be an option to select either by the person creating the game and/or the Super Admin(s) of his/her group as a group option. The default can remain as no conditional moves.

Again, what if you have more than one SA for a group, you cant set a conditionalmove just to one person or 2 in that group if more are there, some teams have 2 to 8 SA's. Plus the one who created the game, if that was an admin, then they would be added as well to the one who could do conditional moves. It still comes down to who ever would make a conditional move for the team, that conditional move would over-ride any votes the team would make. Not vote chess at that point is it? If the team all gets a vote, and they are shunted aside for a conditional move then what the point of a team vote? If a conditional move is contemplated, would you then need a vote by the majority of the team to implement it or just the person or persons who has the control over it. How many SA's or admins, could silently go in and change it??????? It seems it's more complcated than it is worth to put on there. It seem's easier to just vote when it's your turn and be done with it.. Everyone get's what they want to vote for and no one person can make a conditional move that will set aside other team members votes.....
That is the way a conditional move works isnt it? Then it isnt really vote chess if a conditional vote move is made and no other vote can overide it..... Is it conditional moves we are really talking about or early moves that can be inserted when it's the teams turn to vote? I agree 100%
adrian_taylor
I think it's a bad idea, I've been involved in countless games where an agreed move has been found to be unsound and we're thrown into a desperate fight against time to overturn the vote, if you have conditional voting there would be no discussion on your turn to move so the error would be missed, I don't think you can overturn a conditional vote
