Iv'e apparently got chess.com points but what on earth are they for.     Are they going to help me get into tournaments or are they just pointless?

Please can somebody help me.

They indicate to everyone how involved you are with the community.  You get points when you post in the forums, blog, etc.

For tournament eligibility see here. http://www.chess.com/tournaments/help.html

Ok thanx.   So are they just rating points or can you  use them in some way?

Member points are not ratings. They do not have anything to do with your chess playing.

Other members use them to see how involved you are in the community. They are not used for anything else.

Too bad you can't trade them for something... the only effect besides a rising number is: getting more attention when posting since many points seem to give your post kinda more weight, no matter what you write ;)

Yea, they are worth nothing, but they give you more authority you could say

They really don't give you more authority.  A lot of useless posts is no substitute for a few useful ones.  People obtain a measure of authority by what they say, not how often they say it.

You better watch how you treat us; I only need 13406 (13405 now) points to catch up...
