What is the deal with this?  It does not make much sense to me.

if games are very short, for some reason the games aren't rated.

I understand if someone aborts or times out after a short number of moves, but that rule should not apply to wins by checkmate.

It does seem sort of odd, because there are many ways to checkmate someone in a very short number of moves.  Like you, I can understand concerns about timing out after 3 moves or so, but you doing a viable checkmate in 3 moves should be counted towards your rating.

To be honest, winning a game this way does not make you a better player, I don't see why it should be rated. After 6 moves I think it might become a viable option.

Manipulated - how can you believe winning a game by checkmate should not improve your rating?

I agree with alzalam even though it was a short game you won fair and square! I dont think your opponent was very expeirneced with chess and you obviuosly just took that to your advantage as any well playing chess player would!

Manipulated, what's the difference between a 4 move and a 6 move mate? Probably not much. Either way, it seems as though the other player's rating is far below 1200 and any rating changes you would see as a result would be ill-informed in some way. That being said, it was a game, and you won it, so you should receive some sort of credit for that!

If you think that winning a game by check mate in 3 moves is because you played good you are strongly mistaken, it is only because your opponent played bad. Such game is (in most cases) intellectually sterile for the winner, but can be of good help to the loser. The only reason to count it as a rated game is to decrease the rating of the victim, so I guess it should be rated.

What is the difference between a 4 move mate and 6 move mate? The only I would see would be the fact that it can be counted as an opening trap, but even there there is onlya slim line between these two losses. If your opponent timed out on move 3, why should you not get rating points since you won, thus deserve the reward.
