Ok, so it's been a few weeks since I've been to live chess, and I ventured back again tonight for one game.

Pow! My last two games, 100% disconnect losses.

Recently there was a thread about keeping or wiping stats and ratings for live chess.

Why don't we just delete the games that were decided by disconnects? That would be most fair. But in doing so we need to check for players who show a pattern of disconnecting when they are busted and when they reach whatever threshold of disconnects in lost positions they simply get banned from live chess.

Hehe, 100% disconnect rate sounds so huge. Then you add it was just two games. I played two games and got disconnected from them both. Then I played another, and it went fine. 66.6% disconnect rate!

If disconnects didn't count as losses this site would be plagued by people who abuse that fact by intentionally disconnecting in lost positions to avoid the loss.

The good news is that this will not be an issue with Live Chess 2.0.

Who decides when the game is a lost game?

Pretty subjective!

Also what about a poor player who is more often than not in a losing position when they are disconnected??

My best advice to you is to stop crying about it and play the game and don't worry about what happens to your rating!

Hmmm, how to determine when a game is lost, simplified for beginners (such as some of the folks that have posted in this thread):

1. forced checkmate

2. huge material advantage for one side with no positional compensation.

3. an unstoppable pawn about to Queen

While I agree with you that weak players may be in a lost position more often when the disconnect by the very fact that they are weak it's also possible they are clueless about their impending fate thus why would they disconnect intentionally. I mean, we can twist that any way you like.

The suspicion threshold can be set higher for lower rateds maybe but let's say an 1800 player is going to have a pretty good idea what the likely outcome will be so if they were poor sports you would expect them to disco more often when losing.

Sir, you missed the 2nd part of my original post. Games that are disconnected get evaluated to determine if there is any pattern. If there's a pattern, ban that player. Simple.

I just think that people who disconnect in a losing position are far less likely to come to the forums to complain about it which is why it only seems that more disconnects happen to those in winning positions.

A better solution is on the way with Live Chess 2.0 anyway.
