Last time I read a chess rule book, 50 moves without a check or capture is a draw.

Last time I read a chess rule book, 50 moves without a pawn move or a capture could be claimed as a draw if a player chose to do so. It is not automatic.
Edit: Fixed, as duskrevival pointed out.

Checks has nothing to do with it. It is 50 moves without Pawn movement or Capture.
But in your game, just hit the draw button and it will claim draw for you.
