There is a bug in the live chess. I played a game and this ended up into K vs K+Q then the computer ended the game in a draw because of insufficient material. Why?
might we see the game?
Doesn't sound like it should have been so, but a view of the game would help!
Sounds like one of two things happened.
1) The player with the K+Q ran out of time.
2) The computer adjudged the player with the K+Q to have run out of time.
Whoa, I didn't believe him at first (I never believe people with avatars like his), but look at http://www.chess.com/livechess/game.html?id=16257564.
EDIT: I just read steven's post, and yeah that makes sense 'cause Gert was playing white (with K+Q) and black had had the last move.
I feel safe again.
@notkasparov: thanks for posting the game.I played black and had only the king left. My opponent had the king and queen left.@sstteevveenn: you're right. white (K+Q) was running out of time. but why is that not a win for black? I was not checkmated.
If your opponent runs out of time and you have insufficient matieral to mate, then the game is a draw, hope that helps ;)
but why is it a draw? the person who runs out of time first loses the game ?
Yeah, but if the game were to continue, there would be no way for you to win, so since you can't win in the game, you can't win on time either
No, only if a mate is possible against worst play. Otherwise they would be able to play on with just K vs K till either side won on time. This is also whythe stronger player sometimes goes after, or even sacrifices for, his opponents final pawn rather than playing for mate at once if he's short on time.
thanks for explaining everybody. It was the first time I saw this. Very interesting.
White should win that game, as it is on move too! Gert-jan, you are lucky because you was Black... still it is not fair!
No pbpostma, I was not lucky because my opponent did not have much time. I could have win on time.
