drawn/insufficient material rule

I just finished a live chess game and have a question.  Time ran out, my opponent had a queen and king, I just had my king.  there were no other pieces remaining.  We received notice that the game was drawn due to insufficient material.  Is that possible?

okay I just did some research (which I should have done before I posted my question) and learned that in a timed game, if one player runs out of time (my opponent did) and the other has insufficient material (that would be me with just the king) the game is considered drawn due to insufficient material.  So I learned something new.

It makes sense, doesn't it? You couldn't have checkmated him with a bare king, so a win doesn't make much sense.
