Hey everyone, hoping someone can help me out. I play live chess on firefox, and have for a long time. Always used to have lightning-quick response from the game - as soon as I click, the piece moves. Lately, every time I play, despite having a great connection, the reponse is very sluggish. I'll drag a piece to a square, and instead of moving smoothly, the piece clunk-clunk-clunks along, like the computer is having to perform vast calculations to move the piece. I've cleaned out my history and cache, but to no avail. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

are you running any other processor-intensive programs at the same time? check your task manager (control+alt+delete on windows). do you reboot your computer frequently?
other ideas:
- defrag- use ccleaner or tuneup utilities- reboot often- use google chrome!

Google Chrome is the best!!!

I have this problem as well. It goes away if I close all firefox browsers and start it again. The response in live chess will get sluggish after not restarting firefox for a few days.
EDIT: I do not reboot the machine, just close all firefox windows and restart firefox.

Loomis, this is because every time you open and close a tab in FF you are eating memory space that will not be restored until you close the entire FF application. Chrome is different in that every tab acts as its own program, so when you close a tab in Chrome, it frees up the memory, too.
