how much food do GMs IMs and chess champions eat b4 a long chess game in a tournament or important game. what are the main components of their diet just b4 the game (day or two) . also , how much do they sleep. are they allowed to take a swim b4 the game ?  also do some GMs IMs spent time alone (meditation) b4 the game ?

    thank you .

No one eats before a game. I dont even eat at tournament games and I'm not a GM by any means lol. I like to prepare for my opponents, but not overthink about them, meditation always helps. Sleep depends on the player

Five time US Champ Walter Browne once told an interviewer he'd buy any opponent a big steak dinner one hour before their game. I've read that (some? many?) GMs will eat a light meal an hour or two before playing so that they aren't distracted by being hungry (or light-headed either).

BUT everyone has to figure out what works for them: The fact that IMs and GMs eat this or do/don't do that prior to important games doesn't mean that will work for  joe_of_the_jungle or anyone else either. However, Browne's point about not eating a really big or heavy meal (ie a steak) shortly before playing is probably good advice for the vast majority of us!

Some people like to chug coca-colas and eat jumbo boxes of Mike and Ikes before and during games, we can call these people fat and disgusting and bad at chess.  I would not buy my opponent a steak dinner, I would rather they chug a coca-cola.

    Steak dinners?  No!

    Vegetable curry?  Yes!

At tournaments, I see people eating while they play.  I guess it just depends on the type of person, as mentioned above.
