I'm losing because of disconnects... and I"m not the one disconnecting!

ok I will admit the live chess 2 is pretty sweet. But the disconnect feature, though intended to help save players who have bad internet connections, is absolutely killing players with good connections. Why? Becuase when they disconnect, they dont' lose any time, but whiel they're gone I might go off and do something else, only to find 5 minutes later that they had already moved and I lost 2 minutes on my clock!

when my opponent does this 15 times in a game - my timer goes to 10 seconds when he has 4 minutes. Now who's time is lost here?

Certainly I felt like I was the one who got disconnected. IN this case, I wish I was.

My suggestion is that the disconnect time delay be watered down to 10-15 seconds max. This way players have some time to get back into the game while the waiting player won't get bored and get distracted.

thanks,!

Hmmmmm................... Interesting idea. Idk what the solution is but i agree that penalizing those with good connections is bad.

this should now be fixed - their timer will keep going.

There is a great confusion about disconnect. There are two types of disconnect: the first one clearly done on purpose by the player which displays a red message. In this case if the player doesn't reconnects he/she looses after two minutes (too long). The second one happens when a panel is displayed on the chess board indicating "connection interrupted...reconnecting". I don't know if this is due to my poor internet connection but it is strange that this always happens when the opponent is in clear dfficulty. When there is a reconnection, all the time lost is given back to the opponent while your time is considerably reduced if not entirely lost. It is difficult to believe that this is not done on purpose though I don't know how this is technically possible. Any contribution to explain how to resolve this problem is welcome.

But why does the "reconnecting" message block the board? If my time is ticking down, surely I have a right to use it?

Is this the place to report " guidohendriks" for leaving me in limbo when he was beaten and when I asked him to resign or move he disconnected. Is he one of those who try to bore you into disconnecting to improve their rating?? his rating is 1200 but he does not play to that level. His games should be checked.

I think we should compromise and agree with 30 seconds, so that if your opponent is really disconnecting then it gives them time to connect again.

30 seconds would be insufficient time for my cable modem to walk through all its self-tests and resume operation. A bit too short, in my view.
