Insufficient Material??? Really?

Can someone explain to me how a timed game is drawn due to insufficient material when your opponents clock runs out and you have X number of seconds...say 50???  Why isn't the game won or lost due to time???  This makes no sense to me.

If you don't have enough material left to checkmate the opponent, then you cannot win the game anymore, not even if your opponent runs out of time. If he runs out, it's a draw. It's the rules.

if you wouldn't mind posting the final position...i'm sure that would make it easier to explain

Black ran out of time, so cannot win.

White has no way of administering checkmate, so cannot win.

A draw by "Insufficient material" is awarded in this eventuality.

With a position like that why aren't you glad to take whatever you can get?! :D

@ReLentLess5150: What if you are the one playing with black pieces and you run out of time but still a draw. Will you complain?

That, I understand, but he was on his way to promote, therefore, he could've won...except for the fact that I had more time than he did.

     Wasn't a complaint...was asking for a clarification because I didn't know/understand the rule. Now, I do.
