Kicked for posting a quote

I don't think the filter should kick automatically. There was a discussion about Bobby Fischer, I posted on of his anti-semitic quotes (oh, there were a lot of them...) and got kicked immidietely. I don't really mind the kick itself, but find it a bit humiliating. I do not identify with his views in any way, I was just quoting him to show Bobby wasn't as awesome as he's presented.

Looking back, quoting that kind of language in live chess isn't a good idea. However, I thought there was a three-strikes rule-I don't feel kicking without warning is fair.

I understand where you are coming from with regard to your particular case, however the auto-moderator is merely an algorithm that has no conception of discretion. If your proposed alteration were implemented generally, wouldn't that just allow the haters (racists, sexists, neo-Nazis etc.) more scope to abuse the system (three times before kicking)?

I think it's probably best to leave the standard where it is and in future to watch what you type..... after all, the auto-moderator did a good job, in that it made you re-evaluate exactly what you say. No real harm was done, older and wiser.

You're right. I was frustrated at the time, but after taking a chess.com break for a few hours, I realise that the auto-filter makes sense. My case isn't really all that usual, and it's true that even quoting offensive material is against the rules.

Now that I'm back to live chess and free to play, I don't see it as such a big deal.

I still think it might be worth it to kick from the chat, but allow the player to continue their games: I lost a won one due to the kick. But you're right there's no harm.

    There are a few problems:

    1. You were in a thread about bashing a dead guy. You went where there was trouble and trouble found you.
    2. Quoting isn't a magical wand that lets you say anything you want. You're still responsible for what you write even if the words aren't yours. If you were doing a report on someone and they started spewing random curse words, you probably wouldn't quote them. You'd note it, but you wouldn't quote it.

Same deal here; You might not get in as much trouble but you did copy the exact same thing the other person said and thus you are posting that mess yourself.

Just be a bit more careful next time, and avoid "bashing threads" because they are nothing but trouble.

Bashing Fischer is, and will remain, a joy. Bashing dead people? That happens all the time, so what? It's not "trouble" in itself.

You should save your pity. Pity is a bizarre concept anyway.  I don't hate your Bobby Fischer, and never said I did. I just like making fun of himLaughing

that, quite obviously, says something about your character as well.

You don't hate Fischer but you like bashing him ?!  Goodness !  So how do you act towards those you do hate pray tell ?

You do realize that you bash people too? Do you hate them? I happen to be bashing your hero. Fischer was just a jerk with opinions. I bash him. I don't know that I have said "I hate" to anyone, ever. I just don't care about what Fischer said, enough to take it beyond finding him, and some of worshipping fans in a state of awe and respect, annoying. So you needn't work yourself up so much about my views on lovely Bobby. For every one of me there are thousands like you on the matter.
