Just had a close call. I really want to play in one, but it was cxl'd with 5 people (min 6 I'm told).

The system as it stands is inadequate. It is misleading to list numerous tournament start times when few if any begin due to player involvement. Currently, I must wait and avoid playing games repeatedly to make sure I am available for a tournament that I signed in for. Then, my time waiting was shown to be wasted because no-one else wanted to play. People try to play and then the tournament cancels. Your current setup asks the players to just hang around and continually wait for the next starting interval. One word for this system: FAIL!
If you MUST automate it, then have the server setup continuous tournaments that register one after another as they end. The tournament stay open until a certain minimum is filled. Once the minimum is met, the server announces the tournament will begin in X minutes so late players can jump in.
VERY annoying experience today with the constant cancels and waiting.
jerk! we have been asking chess.com to make live tournys and they did it (they are still working out the bugs genius) ty chess.com for the live tournys by far will be my favorite tool

cancelled tournaments wont' be an issue once we leave BETA and everyone can play.

Nice feature!I tried my first live chess tournament today(2|1).We were 10 players (i think), but we only played 1 game then it stopped!- Aren't we supposed to play vs everybody in the tournament?
DeepGreene
Not necessarily, but there should have been more than 1 round - unless a bunch of people dropped out.

I played a couple of 5 minute tourneys and I enjoyed it. I can't wait to play the 15|10 more often but then again I have to make sure I get no interuptions and have the free time (3-4 hours).

From the tournaments I've played things have been generally good.
Funnily I notice you're using swiss pairings, maybe this can be done for online chess as well.

just something that is incorrect, gold members cant play 2 tournaments per day, but 2 tournaments per 24 hours. Could you plzz change that? Becose now i have to wait 7 hours before i can join one. If you dont want to change it, then atleast change the articles about it. (coz now ur sayin things that are incorrect)
Thx

I love the tournaments, it really adds a lot to the site. So far the only strange thing is that when 7 rounds of 2/1 are announced, only 4 rounds are effectively played, why is that?
Depends on the number of players.. You don't play the same person twice as well.
For a tournament to start there need to be at least 6 players.
Just_4Fun
is a day not 24 hours anymore o_O
it means that when i played my too tournaments yesterday at 9pm, the next day i have to wait till 9pm before i can join one
yeah...wow...thats sucky

I really like this new feature! Is there any record of the results of live tournement? I want to put medals in my showcase ;)

One thing that I would maybe tweek with the tournaments is to maybe have a longer interval inbetween rounds. As it stands you only get about 10 seconds from the last game finishing to the next round starting, so if you are constantly the last game to finish in the 15/10 tournaments it could be a long time to wait for a toilet break from the beginning of the tournament to the end - 4-5 hours predicted. I think maybe 1 minute between rounds on the longer tournaments. I played a 1 min bullet tourney and the first game was so intense I barely had time to catch my breath (I was holding it all of the way through) before the next round started. I think the whole tournament was over in 5 minutes, it was great fun though.
If you win any medals, they are already in your Trophy Room. (We'll have announcements working soon!)
Also, we'll be adding main-site pages to show your live-tournament history, etc. (a lot like our current pages for e-chess tournaments) at some point in the not-too-distant future.
not yet, but there will be!
