Losing opponents who stall at the end game

>I've played a number of live games where I'm about to checkmate and my opponents appear to have lost interest and not taken their turn so were out of time. At the last game it was very near checkmate for me, my opponent only had a castle and a few pawns left and I waited several minutes for play. Owing to this, my iPhone screen went to the home screensaver a few times but i managed to stay connected but then I had a message that I'd lost as I'd aborted the game! Quite frustrating! What do members think? My opponent still had several minutes left when this happened.

Only a *castle* left, you say?  hehe

No horsie?

You must have really sunk his battleship.

I'm *epauled he didn't stick around.

Sounds like a sore loser to me.

1) Set your iphone power saver setting/screen saver mode to longer.

While you play...Or

2) Play shorter timed games.

Play quicker matches

or

Enjoy the your gameplay was so furious it frustrated them to such extremes

Invite others to gather at your smartphone and drool in your presence for being such a superior chess player.

Most of all, stop crying.  Abort the match, and don't get hung up on the statistics of wins and losses.

I hope that iphone is a knockoff from Shenzen.

I hate it, because I also play long time controls, and get this same problem often. At all of my protests (on several different servers), I get the same response: your opponent has a right to use all of the time that is on his clock, as you both agreed to that specific time control. Although it's a sign of horrible sportsmanship, it's legal.

The answer isn't to play quicker matches, but probably to turn off your phone's screen saver when you are about to play online. And kudos to you for playing longer time controls, it's good for deep calculation and positional evaluation.

It may be advantageous to play those you know already will respect a longer game.

Going onto the internets with a challenge to a 30 minute match, you never know what you will get.

This is a chess website, think natural forms.  How to get upset with knowing this things already?

There are trolls and sore losers on the internets?  No wayyyY!
