While playing chess on this site i picked many things up while playing such as to not castle too early in the game and not to check the opponents king with my queen or bishop too early

Too early is moves 1, 2,  and 3. You won't go very wrong castling after that barring tactical blunders.

Keep learning!  You will break the I-k barrier soon!Cool  Castling early in the game is actually a good thing, it brings your powerfull rooks together where they are most distructive to your opponent..... And a bishop check early in the game will bring fear into the hearts of the timid and weak at heart chess players!lolo not kidding  just ask Trysts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Itsnot that you should never do it jsut dont be so hesitant on castling or checking cause the king may be safe already being kept in the center is one way of seeing it.

I played a game against my computer (8 of 10 level) and tried a purely defensive game, bunching my bishops & knights and bringing in my rooks, leaving king in center. Well, somehow I won but forgot to save game. Never seen that tried before, everyone likes to attack.

Welcome to the nuthouse. I'm sure you'll eventually fit right in. Until then, please enjoy some games of chess.
