Pre-moves - cheating or not?

Sort:
Link100

Here is the correspondence with one player.

He accuses me of cheating because I used pre-moves and won. What do you think about pre-moves? Is that cheating or not?

P.S.> Sorry for my bad English.

By "pre moves" do you mean conditional moves?

If so, and if you used conditional moves in order to gain an edge in a time-controlled game (i.e., to cut down on the amount of time it took to make your moves so that you could win on time)...then yeah, I'd consider that cheating, or at the very least poor sportsmanship.

No, I can't use conditional moves in live game. I mean nonconditional moves, that everyone can swith on in options menu in live game.

You just find all kinds of very strange opinions here. Some think premoves are cheating, others think that not giving a rematch is unfair ...

Just ignore it.

Ok. Sorry. It's been a while since I've played live chess.

If it's a feature specific to live chess, then it must be there for a reason (such as for dealing with lag, as monetioned above).

So no, I guess it's not cheating. I have come across this a while ago when playing live chess, though, and I remember wondering how my opponent was moving so quickly at the end of the game. Now I guess I know.

I like post-moves better (it’s when you move twice when they are not looking)

I didn't see the part about a bump LOL

Not cheating, due to the fact if you make a vulnerable/incorrect move before your opponent moves, then you are liable to lose that peice.

I dont see how that is considered cheating because your just taking a risk premoving

No

Nope 👎

If premoving was cheating the creators of chess.com wouldn't have made it an option.
