which do you prefer in a live game? quick, blitz, or long?.. for me, long games really test your skill by deciding your move.. but the longer it is, the more you feel bored...  so i prefer quick games because of lag connections... lol

I like both, J. Claud.  I usually play a longer game, then a shorter one.  Like you, I tend to get bored, and the short games wake me up.

i live in cebu,philippines...i'm still a highschool student...other hobbies??..i enjoy playing guitar,chatting with friends and also know how to draw and sketch..but i really take time in my favorite hobby...chess...lol

5 mins seems not enough for me ... too many wrong moves

My attention span for live games suck so I play blitz or quick.  In long games I end up watching youtube while my opponent thinks and then dropping pieces.

I play best in coorespondence because if I am in the state of mind where I'm distracted, restless & can't focus I don't have to move right away.  Whereas I generally goto play Live chess when I'm distracted, restless & can't focus.

I usually play 5 min games or longer, so that's blitz and long. I prefer long games though.

long but not too long......or else I get bored. Therefore, I prefer long, 15 to 20 minutes, with no bonus time( bonus time seems like cheating to me).

I prefer 5hr OTB. I never get bored with it.  

can i ask something mates?how can you cheat using time?is it because of lag connections?...because i often lose because of time when i play quick...

I play all of the above, focusing on the one which has the lowest rating at the time.

I prefer long. My seek time controls are 45 0, and I accept seeks that offer enough time to think properly. I have nothing against what other choose to play, but quick games just don't do it for me, because they understate the potential of both players.

10 minutes blitz or 15 minutes long are ok for me.

Me, little buddy, I like long games. Because the moves I've seen made in a 1-3 minute blitz would not be made in a long match. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying they don't have skill because they do, but a lot of times, they just make moves to beat the clock and win on time not skill. I love watching a 20 minute long games with players rated at 1900 and above, they do more complex moves and angle moves, some there moves make you want to say"WOW" that was awesome.
