Hi,
I am new around here. I have been using "random" choice in seek in live chess.
In 8/10 games, I was alloted black.Statastically not really random.
Not that I mind, but still, why?
Anybody know?

statistically 10 samples is not really relevant. A rough estimate would abt .5% chance of 8/10 being black, lousy luck but for sure randomly possible...
They're out to getchya
I checked when I was at 135 games... 67 were as black, 68 were as white... I really think the software does take your history into account when looking for seeks, and does try to give you an equal amount. You just happen to be seeking at a time when most of your opponents are black-heavy, and need more games as white. It should balance out over time.
Maybe people are only accepting the games when they show up as white? I know it does show you what color you are going to be before you accept.
I think I've had some skew towards the black pieces (at one point, I think I was almost 2:1 black:white over a about one hundred blitz games), but I've always just assumed I got the improbable end of the stick. Over the next few hundred, I'll probably level it out.
ok guys - lots of answers. All possible. Hmmm. So as such nobody actually knows.
u really think theyre out to get me? . Ha ha Me? Im insignificant in this large world which is in this enormous milky way which is in this unimaginably big universe. Who would have the time to try to "get" me
Sorry to break the news, but it really is 100% random. You just have bad luck.
Bad luck? Hmmm. I just won 10 games out of 10, out of which i should have been won 7/ loss 2/ draw 1. Actually luck seems to be favouring me at present right?
bad luck huh? am having the run of my life - winning games i should have lost / drawn. hmmmm.
pl let me know once u reach 300 / 400. It should then be statastically significant. We can have redlite462 do an analysis - seems to be a whiz in stats. How he arrived at 0.5% i dont understand. Anyway- i was never good in probablity theory.
u a whiz in stats?
Cant be answer, because logically, that means i have ALREADY been alloted black by the computer right, so problem is still same?
thats going to take some time since i dont play fast games
are you a whiz at stats?? I said it was a rough estimate. you have a 50% (.50)chance of getting black in one game. getting black twice would be would be (.50)x(.50) or .25 (25%). getting 8 in a row would be .5^8 or abt .005. like I said rough estimate.
OK.as i said, im poor in stats.
Yeah you just have bad luck lol
im not sure about bad luck. After all out of 10 games, 8 black i won all 10!!! 2 of these i should have actually lost. sheer luck i won those
When we click a game, it shows it to you - including the color. If one wants to play white, but it shows black, then they can cancel. That would lead to people initiating seeks to play more black, if indeed people wanted white. You can initiate some and then accept open seeks some too, and even initiate games and specify black. I would just try to balance out White and Black. But no, this is not a random process.
I just clicked all all seven open seeks available to me. Every time I was assigned the White Pieces. I looked, and then cancelled. I'm not sure what's up, but this is not a random process to the second power!
When we choose "random" choice while we wait for someone to join us in seek, i dont see whether i am getting balck or white till someone actually joins - cancelling at this stage somehow doesnt feel fair to the other guy who want to play u right?. i thought it would be really random, but i seem to be getting blacks in a row. White only 3 times now.
